THE CHALLENGE: Several factors drove Augusta ENT to evaluate their technology and select UTG as their new trusted provider of IT solutions. Faced with slow, unreliable servers, unacceptable downtime and increased rates of failure, Augusta ENT sought to eliminate their back office challenges and improve productivity by implementing a more efficient network environment. They needed to reshape the way resources were provisioned, prioritized, and delivered to better align the data center with the needs of the practice, specifically for their critical software applications, GE Centricity and AllMeds EMR (electronic medical records). Finally, with sensitive, private medical data being shared across the network and Augusta ENT’s three locations, simplified, streamlined, and reliable systems were essential.
THE SOLUTION: UTG assessed the existing technology and replaced nine aging servers with three VMWare servers running nine virtual servers. The server consolidation gained significant improvement and return on investment with increased utilization and improved responsiveness, while eliminating sprawl, reducing power and cooling, and enhancing redundancy. The Dell EqualLogic 4000 SAN solution not only provided 9.6TB RAW storage and future data growth capacity, but also offered superior speed and resiliency. UTG shortened Augusta ENT’s recovery time objectives (RTO) for their business-critical applications from days to hours/minutes with the implementation of a Backup and Disaster Recovery solution. The UTG-managed BDR device increased recovery reliability and reduced compliancy risk for the practice.
In addition, to streamline operations and improve staff productivity, Augusta ENT chose UTG’s Managed Services solutions to proactively monitor and manage their new environment. Providing excellent IT support at an affordable monthly flat rate has simplified, streamlined, and delivered the peace of mind that allows the ENT IT staff to focus on the needs of the practice.
THE RESULTS: With the solution in place for nearly six months, Augusta ENT has seen incredible gains in speed and reliability without a single moment of downtime since the transition. Additionally, their applications are noticeably faster for users increasing operational efficiency. For example, entry of patient charts was previously impossible during business hours due to speed. Vendors including AllMeds and Centricity are thrilled with the performance of their applications on the network.
Additional benefits include not having to actively monitor the servers, which used to require constant management to ensure functionality, increase speed, avoid errors, and more. Seamless Backups require no user management, and offer peace of mind. Staff of Augusta ENT can now focus on maintaining the practice and ensuring the highest quality of care for patients of the practice.
