Are these 3 Network Performance Problems Impacting Your Business?

1. Dropped calls and degraded audio quality over your VoIP or Hosted Voice?

2. VDI system freezes and sluggish system and application performance?

3. Business Continuity and IP Storage problems including failed backups and unpredictably long transfer times?

If you deployed a performance sensitive application such as VoIP or VDI to remote locations or rolled out a business continuity implementation and did not first fully assesses your network readiness for new applications and infrastructure, that could be the problem. It’s critical to test and assess your network before you make infrastructure changes or roll out new applications. Projects like integrating company networks due to M&A activity, transitioning to an MPLS network, or deploying new applications like VoIP can eat up bandwidth and create application performance issues.

Or there could be other causes that aren’t as easily identified. For example, UTG recently worked with a new client who was experiencing ongoing connectivity and performance issues between offices. They were paying more than $10K/month to their voice and data network communications provider, but the carrier wasn’t able to identify where the problem was or even admit that there was a problem. For eight months the client struggled with dropped calls, sporadic connectivity issues and other frustrations while the carrier assured them that everything was OK on their end.

UTG stepped in and placed a PathView microApplicance from AppNeta on their network to troubleshoot the network and application performance issues with hop-by-hop analyses from the source to their remote sites. (PathView is a small, zero administration device that remotely tests and troubleshoots complex networks, even through third-party infrastructure.) PathView tracked their carrier’s performance with measurements such as bandwidth, jitter, latency and packet loss. The report that came back identified issues with improper handling of Quality of Service (QoS) and bandwidth shaping on the carrier’s managed routers.  Once the problems were identified, the carrier was able to apply corrected router configurations and the client is no longer experiencing connectivity and performance issues between offices.

PathView deploys in minutes and utilizes cloud-based architecture (PathView Cloud). Their network assessment helps to accurately measure how reliable a network will be using a five-step approach:

1. Pre-deployment assessment: Will it work?
2. Post-deployment assessment: Does it work?
3. Ongoing monitoring: How to keep it working?
4. Troubleshooting: Unforeseen problems
5. And of course, accurate reports at each stage

If you’re frustrated with network and application performance issues and want to get to the root of the problem, UTG can deploy a PathView device on your network to pinpoint the problem(s), and then PathView Cloud will continue to monitor the network paths, identifying and alerting your network engineers to any disruptions or performance failures.
